Valerie Zoccola is Counsel in charge of the Private Clients division in Zabaldano Lawyers

With over 24 years of experience in Monegasque law, Valerie applies her extensive expertise to assisting private clients and ultra net worth individuals as well as local companies, large international companies and financial institutions. She continuously strives to research creative strategies and solutions.

Valerie Zoccola is an expert in international private law, dealing with divorces and disputes relating to child custody as well as complex successions matters with an international dimension. She has dealt with the case leading to the first decision in Monaco regarding the implementation of the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction.

She also specializes in commercial/banking and financial litigation. Over her years of experience, she has gathered a strong expertise in handling portfolio management disputes. With her assistance, a client obtained the first Supreme Court decision relating to the nullity of a management mandate, failing the description of the investment objectives.

Valerie joined the firm in 2012 after having successively spent 13 years with another lawyer in Monaco as Senior Associate and Office Manager. She now runs the Private Clients team of 4 which is continually expanding.

She has an in-depth knowledge and high level of technical expertise, being able to handle the most complex cases.

Significant recent achievements include:

  • Successfully obtaining a settlement agreement between former partners of a group of companies in the rare gas and industrial paint business for a dispute of $75 million involving BVI companies.
  • Assisting in several inheritance disputes concerning assets ranging from more than € 150 million up to € 3 billion.
  • Implementing an aggressive strategy, including the challenge of jurisdiction, to protect a spouse’s position in a contentious divorce involving assets over € 1,5 billion.
  • Successfully obtaining a favourable decision against a bank in a fraud case and obtaining the recognition of the liability of a mutual fund manager for a breach of its duty of information for an amount of several millions of euros.
